Divinycell
#1
Hello , i'm looking for a foam that i could use to strenghten my hull . I've been looking at the divinycell but it appears that this "sucks" the resin in . Is this true ?
The foam i'm looking for has to be :
Able to bent
Not too thick , 3MM MAx 4mm
Strenghten the place i'm laminating .

I have used KLEGECELL , that has it all except that it is too thick ( 6MM ) .

Any ideas ??
Thanks in advance ,
Bart

You can fill the surface voids of the foam with a resin-microballoon mixture with a squeegee. This is not as strong as a pure resin bond, but still stronger than the foam, so if there is a mechanical failure it will be in the foam layer anyway. In other words, the bond is good enough and the weight is much less. This is how its done professionally when weight is an issue, e.g. in aircraft production, where foam sandwich construction is widely used.

Divinycell is a closed cell PVC foam, meaning the pores are not interconnected and it will not soak up resin. It's widely used for boat hull production.
